How to Set Up a 4-Player Team Chess Game

Quick Overview

There are two ways to start playing:

  • Host New Game: One person creates a room and shares the Game ID.
  • Join Game: Others enter the Game ID to join the same room.

Tip: You can play with fewer than four people by taking multiple seats or adding bots.

1 Player (Solo vs. Bots)

  1. Click Host New Game on the Select page.
  2. When the room opens, claim multiple seats (e.g., w1 and w2) for yourself.
  3. Optionally enable the AI/bot for the opposing team (b1/b2) if available, or play both sides for practice.
  4. Press Start when ready.

Depending on server settings, bot seats may be automatic or disabled. If bots are disabled, you can still practice by controlling all four seats.

Variation — Mate with a Robot vs Two Robots
  • Goal: Team up with a bot to defeat two bots.
  • Seats: You take w1 (or b1), enable a bot for your teammate seat (w2 or b2), and enable bots for both opposing seats.
  • Example: p1+w2(bot) vs b1(bot)+b2(bot). Try to coordinate and checkmate as a duo against two robots.

2 Players (1v1 — You control teammates)

  1. One player clicks Host New Game and shares the Game ID.
  2. The other clicks Join Game and enters the Game ID.
  3. Each player claims both seats on one team: w1+w2 vs b1+b2.
  4. Press Start when both are ready.
Variations with Bots
  • p1+bot1 vs p2+bot2: each human partners with a bot teammate.
  • p1+p2 vs bot1+bot2: both humans on one team against two bots.

3 Players (2v1)

  1. Host a new game and share the Game ID with both friends.
  2. Two players each take one seat on Team White (e.g., w1, w2); the third player takes both seats on Team Black (or enable a bot for the missing seat if available).
  3. Press Start when all players are ready.

Seat balance is flexible: one player can take two seats on either team.

Variation with Bot
  • p1+bot1 vs p2+p3: one human is paired with a bot versus two humans on the other team.

4 Players (Full Teams)

  1. One player hosts and shares the Game ID with the group.
  2. Each player joins and claims a unique seat: w1, w2, b1, b2.
  3. The host presses Start once everyone is ready.

Where to Find the Game ID

After hosting, the Game ID appears on the game screen and can be copied to share with friends. On the Select page, you can paste it into the Join Game field to enter the same room.
